Satin, Lace & Roses

Pocket full of Posies

A lot of my new pieces are a little more subdued than the original Ohhh Lulu Ruffle Bloomers… but not these pieces.  They are frilly, flirty and girly. I can’t help myself.  I wanted to have a better mix of every day and special occasion lingerie in this new collection I’ve been workingon.

These ribbon-tied panties are made of stretch satin in petal-pink, and chiffon rosette covered mesh.  These would make a great bridal boudoir piece.  Wish I had them for my wedding *whine*

Pretty Petals Knickers

And… more lace.  Lace & Ruffles.  But smaller, more delicate ruffles this time. Pretty, Pretty, Pretty…. I love sewing lingerie, you can add all of those fun, over the top details you wouldn’t ordinarily get to wear.

Pink & Grey, Chevrons, Stripes & Sequins

Mermaid Sequins & Stripes Panties
I found these swarovski crystal beads in my sewing cabinet…( yeah, I just have some “laying around,” I’m a sewing supply hoarder) they make great photo props! Especially paired with these sequined panties.  The sequin fabric is amazing – slightly matte sequins, so unusual and mermaid-like. I have this fabric in grey and sugar-pink.
Chevron Bra & Panties Set

You might recognize this jersey fabric from This Post .  I love this shade of grey.  I cut it on the bias to create a chevron stripe set, paired with some pink.  Neat, huh?

29 Days

Uncategorized
Today is 29 days until the wedding. What do I have to do?
  1. Purchase the bunches of flowers for the table arrangements, which I am doing tonight.
  2. Alter 1 bridesmaids dress
  3. Hem 1 flower girls dress, and complete sewing the other
  4. Order the wine
  5. Confirm the guest count with the caterer
  6. Order the favors
  7. Complete the programs & birdseed bags based on final guest count
  8. Provide the DJ with a song list
  9. Purchase mason jars for the flower arrangements
  10. GET A MARRIAGE LICENSE!
I’m so looking forward to the big day, and I can’t wait to see all of my friends and family all together again – I think that’s one of the best parts of getting married.
I have no expectations of how this is supposed to go, but I do have some hopes for the big day. I hope it doesn’t storm, I hope people stay out of the way of my ceremony, since it is happening in a public park! I hope I don’t feel awkward having my picture taken (camera shy!), and I hope I don’t trip over my dress.
What have I learned from my DIY wedding? People will tell you the the wedding is “your big day,” which is a partial truth and really should come with a caveat. The wedding is all about the Bride & Groom, but only after thorough consultation from everyone involved in the wedding. It is a practice of compromise, consideration, and care, which I guess is a lot like a marriage. The most important key to a happy wedding, is diplomacy.
I’ve really enjoyed (most of) the process (NOT the Wedding Trade Shows!!!), and can’t wait for the big day… and then the day after when we can relax and enjoy our lives as newly weds! Then… have some babies! I’ve been spending too much time with my best friend’s adorable, little ginger-baby. Between that, and reading about Jennie’s second pregnancy at Two Skinny, One Fat, and Little Lucy over at The Vintage Wife, I’ve got the baby-fever bad…
As a reward for my awesome wedding-planning skills, I treated myself to some perfumes from For Strange Women on Etsy a few weeks ago and I got them in the mail two nights ago. I’m positive I ordered from her years ago, but I think she was using a different name, because the scents are so familiar! I absolutely love the way they are packaged, and I feel like a dainty Victorian Lady every time I use them. My favorite is November, which coincidentally is also my favorite dreary month. I’m wearing Astral Projection today, which is a citrus-y scent. I find the scents smell even better when applied and settled into your skin for a few minutes. What surprised me the most, was how long lasting the scents are…

At what point do you decide to take your business full time?

Uncategorized

On Saturday, I hardly sewed a thing… I replaced a zipper in a garment for my cousin and finished a few odds and ends, but mostly I spent my time at a birthday party, walking Oliver through a Side Walk Sale down town, at the movies with Dan, then sleeping 12 hours straight. I have been so exhausted and busy lately!

This morning we met with our officiant for the first time and decided on our vows. Our ceremony will only be about 20 minutes long, which is just perfect. Not too long, not too short.
After wards, we did some running around, and I finished some orders. I have been working on 2 sets for a customer, with two pairs of panties each. I really love the jersey and lace set, I think it is one of my favourites, and has been a pretty popular set. I love it with the matching thong.
I am so happy to have so many orders on the go. I haven’t relisted a single thing since I ran my heartsy deal and business is still good.
I keep asking myself, “At what point do you consider your business successful enough to go at it full time?” I would love to hear your input.
Lastly, I finally made the switch to smartphones and will be BlackBerry accessible on Monday… Dan and I have a few road trips scheduled, so now I can be connected wherever I go. I am also itching to move… I love our apartment but Ohhh Lulu needs its own room, desperately.

Saturday

Uncategorized

So, I am at work… I can’t remember the last time I had a Saturday off! I miss my 9-5! Ohhh Lulu has been crazy busy lately. I’ve got a pile of things to get sewing, plus my brain is swimming with new ideas… scallops, rhinestones, slinky silks and laces… The more and more I think of it, the more and more I want to give Ohhh Lulu more of my time. It’s such a scary venture, going into business alone, but with hardly any advertising or promotion I am already doing way better than I ever dreamed. I keep thinking, if I were to focus on advertising, production, getting into more stores, I could really do this! Such a scary, exciting thought! My dream coming true… This morning, while at work, I ordered new clothing labels and some custom printed ribbon, as well as some beaded applique’s to make hair pieces for my bridesmaids. My mom stopped by my work this morning and surprised me with a coffee and a my Grandmothers wedding band, which I will cherish! I had an email about another great blog this morning. If you have a chance, please stop by and have a visit to FemmePetal’s blog! In my morning Etsy surfing, I stumbled upon this Ring by DEVINEsweetness :
And I think I’m in love. She also has the cutest coffee cup and croissant bobby pins that would just look too cute in my hair! I am desperatly trying to resist the temption to just buy them right now, since I have recently purchased tickets to see The Vinyl Cafe, and want to buy a serger and a new camera!

Busy as a Bee

Uncategorized

I have been so busy lately! Filling orders, photographing and listing new items. This one is my favourite.

I listed my first item on the Sense of Fashion website. I will need to add more over there, but one item is at least, a start.
Dan and I have made awesome wedding headway, finalizaing the guestlist, and planning out our big day. I can hardly believe it is 5 months away! The time is flying by so fast, but not fast enough! I am really excited about the wedding and all the fun things to come after.

Two in a week… I must have done something good…

Uncategorized

This week several great things have happened to me. Let me first start of by saying that Thursday was a terrible, stressful day, but my dear Dan showed his true colours by pulling through honourably as always. We ended a terrible day with a feat of good Samaritan-ship and now the universe is paying back with all kinds of good fortune.

1. I lost a very important key the day my dad had his heart attack… my key ring was loose and keys flew everywhere in my haste to get home… Yesterday Dan found it sitting in a melting snow bank.

2. A treasury I made was on the front page this morning!

3. My item was featured on the front page.

4. I no longer need to wear a ratty uniform shirt to work and am now free to choose my OWN clothes like a grown up!

So, as a whole, it has been a fantastic couple of days, after some very, very stressful times.

I work a short shift today, then am looking forward to a day off with Dan. We finished up our registry on Wednesday and got some fantastic stuff. This weekend I might try to start crafting some decorations… or just play video games, not sure which way I’ll go yet!
