The Delphine Thong

Design Diary, Lingerie, New Items, Sewing Patterns

Warning: butt cheeks ahead!

In my younger days, I wore thongs a lot more. It was the style of the times.  As I’ve “matured” I’ve replaced most of my skimpy thongs for more comfortable (still pretty) styles. That’s not to say that thongs aren’t comfortable – they definitely can be! And they serve a practical purpose…

A High Waist Thong may not be super practical for every day wear, but hot damn… it looks great on. I was skeptical when I first started getting requests for a high waist thong, but I thought I’d try it out. I was very pleasantly surprised!

The Delphine Thong

As I was developing this pattern I wanted to come up with a way to use scalloped stretch lace on a high waist thong – that’s View C of the pattern. It’s a little bit Ultimate Lace Panties mixed with a little Ava Panties and I’m really happy with how it turned out. The style lines allow you to mix and match colours and fabrics, one of my favourite things to do with a design!

I made a few different sets as I was sewing up samples, pairing the basic high waist version with my Natalie Crop Top, then I made some bottoms for a Romy Bra and Jasmine Bra (from my Valentine’s Day Sew Along) from my own lingerie drawer.

Something Fun!

Lingerie, New Items, Sewing Patterns

I’ve been busy!

I just finished updating the Jane & Lola patterns, and in the process (on a sick day I might add) I came up with an adorable idea…

Undies with animal ears!

I’m not the first person to have this amazing idea. Knickerocker has been making the most adorable animal undies for a while now.  I don’t plan on making these to order (ok, maybe I will by special request), so definitely check out Knickerocker if you’re in the market for a cute pair of cat-ear undies.

The thing I love most about this pattern is that the possibilities are pretty much endless… after I had made my first sample, Sonja from Ginger Makes gave me the idea of sewing Pug Undies. I can’t believe I didn’t think of it myself!

So… I’ll be periodically providing free add-ons for this pattern. I’ll be posting the Pug Add-On soon, and a Peter Pan Collar Add On as well. If you have any ideas, please feel free to leave me a comment and I’ll see if I can make your wishes come true! Here’s a quick sneak peek of the Add-On’s that I almost have ready…

You can purchase the Miyu Pattern, which comes with instructions for the Kitty and Bunny Ears HERE, or on my Etsy Shop.

So… once I had added some darks to my 3 for $60 deal, I had to add some bights to counter balance the dark and pastel, so I’ve added a few fun prints in more saturated colours than I usually use.

My favourites are the ones above and the ones below. The Gold Floral pair are so soft.  I absolutely love the fabric (I also have a small bit in chocolate brown).

Busy week for Ohhh Lulu….

Well, Thanks everyone for making my Sale a huge success! I hope everyone was able to get in on the deal who had wanted to.

To help boost things a bit, I made Etsy’s front page on Saturday. It made for a very busy weekend!

Also, my give away on Oh the Lovely Things came to a close on Sunday.  I was surprised to see almost 400 entries into the give away! Thanks to everyone who entered, and congratulations to the winner. And, if you didn’t win, stay tuned… I’ve always got a new one up my sleeve!

Satin, Lace & Roses

Pocket full of Posies

A lot of my new pieces are a little more subdued than the original Ohhh Lulu Ruffle Bloomers… but not these pieces.  They are frilly, flirty and girly. I can’t help myself.  I wanted to have a better mix of every day and special occasion lingerie in this new collection I’ve been workingon.

Here

These ribbon-tied panties are made of stretch satin in petal-pink, and chiffon rosette covered mesh.  These would make a great bridal boudoir piece.  Wish I had them for my wedding *whine*

Pretty Petals Knickers

And… more lace.  Lace & Ruffles.  But smaller, more delicate ruffles this time. Pretty, Pretty, Pretty…. I love sewing lingerie, you can add all of those fun, over the top details you wouldn’t ordinarily get to wear.

Ooh La La Pin Up Sew Along Pt. 3… Finishing the leg and waist openings with elastic

Uncategorized

Depending on the type of elastic you are using, you will use different methods to apply the elastic.  However, the basic idea is the same.  Baste your elastic on, pulling gently to ensure a secure fit.  Fold your elastic under, or over, and zig-zag stitch down, pulling flat as you go.  When you finish, you want your elastic to pull your leg and waist opening slightly smaller – about 2″ depending on the resiliency of your elastic.
For foldover elastic -baste the elastic to the wrong side, as you would bias tape. Use a long zig-zag stitch.

Trim back any excess, fold over towards the right side, and zig-zag stitch down, pulling as you go.

If using a flat lingerie elastic, with or without a picot edge, baste onto the right side of your garment, pulling gently as you go. Stitch about 1/16″ away from the edge of the elastic, furthest from the edge of your garment.  For instance, if you are applying a 1/2″ elastic to the waist band of your panties, baste on 7/16″ away from the seam allowance.  Make sense?

Trim back any excess, fold your elastic under, and top stitch down.

Voila! Two easy ways to finish off your garments… And you’re done!

Ooh La La Pin Up Sew Along Pt 3…. What you will need to sew the High Waist Panties

Uncategorized

The 3rd instalment of our Sew Along is definitely the easiest, and will require just a few things that are pretty easy to source.

You will need a total of 1 yard of stretch knit fabric, like jersey, stretch lace, spandex, etc.  OR you can do a combination of a woven fabric cut on the bias (1/2- 3/4 of a yard will do), and about 1/2 a yard of nice, stretchy fabric for the side panels. When using a wove fabric for the front and back panel, you may find the panties do not sit as high – when fabric is cut on the bias and is stretched horizontally, you will find that it shrinks vertically.

You also need a small scrap of cotton jersey for the crotch lining, and about 2 yards of lingerie elastic.  You can use Fold Over Elastic, Picot Edge Elastic, and even just a plain, soft, flat elastic – about 1/4″ to 1/2″ wide.

Gather up some scrap fabrics of similar weight and stretch to sew a muslin.  I used broad cloth and some old scrap mesh to sew mine. It’s very important that the fabric you choose for your muslin have the SAME stretch as the fabric you plan on sewing your final garment with or your fit will be off.

The last thing you will need is the pattern – I’ll be drawing for a free copy tomorrow.

Ooh La La Pin Up Sew Along Pt. 3… Give Away! CLOSED

Uncategorized
To Kick off the 3rd instalment of our Pin Up Sew Along, I am giving away a copy of my PDF “Betty” High Waist Panties Pattern.  It contains sizes xs-lg (34″ hip to 41″ hip), and is easily grade-able. These knickers have been designed for Stretch Knits, but I will show you how to make them accommodate a woven front and back panel. They use about 1 yard of fabric, but because of the princess seaming, you can mix and match fabrics easily, and use up some scraps from your stash!
Here’s how to enter:
  1. Leave a comment on this post letting me know how you’ll be sewing your Betty Knickers – stretch satin, lace, jersey? Please also leave me an email address where I can contact you if you are the lucky winner!

  3. Tweet (@OhhhLulu) or Blog about the Give Away and Sew along for a 3rd entry.
